Dr. Debashish Nayak is a highly skilled and accomplished senior consultant in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. Currently serving as the Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Thoracic Surgery, he has extensive experience in performing various complex surgical procedures.

With over 7000 successful open-heart surgeries and more than 1000 thoracic and vascular cases to his credit, Dr. Nayak is considered a leading expert in his field. His expertise encompasses a wide range of procedures, including aortic aneurysm repair, Bentall’s procedure, minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve replacements (such as mitral valve and aortic valve replacement), and closure of congenital heart defects (such as ASD, PDA, and VSD). He is also experienced in performing lung surgeries like lobectomy and pneumonectomy, as well as procedures for peripheral vascular diseases and complex trauma/vascular injuries.

Dr. Nayak’s educational journey began with his schooling, where he excelled and passed his 12th standard examination with first division. He went on to secure a seat in the prestigious Veer Surendra Sai Government Medical College, Burla, where he completed his MBBS degree. Subsequently, he pursued a Diplomate of National Board of Examinations (DNB) in General Surgery and achieved specialization in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery through a rigorous MCh program at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry.

After completing his training, Dr. Nayak joined Apollo Hospital Bhubaneswar as a Junior Consultant in September 2011. Over the years, he has grown in his career and currently holds the position of Senior Consultant in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at Apollo Hospital. He is highly regarded for his clinical acumen, surgical expertise, and dedication to patient care.

Dr. Nayak has made notable contributions to the medical field through his research and publications. He has authored several papers in esteemed medical journals, covering topics such as aneurysms, diabetic foot wounds, bedsores, intussusception, and cardiac anomalies. He is a respected member of various professional societies, including the Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Vascular Society of India, and the Asian Society for Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery, among others.

In addition to English, Dr. Nayak is fluent in multiple languages, which enables him to effectively communicate with patients from diverse backgrounds. Looking ahead, he is particularly interested in advancing his expertise in endovascular repair of aneurysms, heart failure and transplantation, and peripheral vascular diseases.
